Dear Hosni Mubarak,
You’re not really a bad guy. In fact, for the most part you’ve been more of a LEADER than a ‘ruler’. A Head of State long admired by many in the two continents in which your nation lies.
But here’s the irony: For three decades you’ve been a reliable, dependable ally of successive US administrations. You’ve been the favorite ‘Number One Ally in the region’. Whatever US governments asked of you or of your people you delivered without fail. Congrats!
Now the sweeping revolutionary change that started in Tunisia last week, passed through Algeria (and is bound to return there in less than a month) and is spreading to many nations on all continents is RIGHT NOW knocking at your door.
SO WHAT NOW? Well, from experience I’ve known that ‘allies’ are considered good guys only when they have something to offer. Unfortunately, the media over here is already calling you a ‘dictator’ and totally ignoring the fact that you were the favored go-to-good guy ‘we’ so desperately needed.
In less than a week, many people in the US will be brainwashed into believing you were actually a despicable tryant worthy of seven hell fires. There will be little to no mention of what you’ve given up and gave away as an ally. Little mention of the billions of dollars you received from Washinton over the years to fund projects for your people and the military. You will quickly become the new bad guy that must go.
THEREFORE: Like any smart politician, I hope you’re not looking at the shores of Alexandria nor the skyline over Cairo for a savior from the West. Washington will not come to your aid. Washington will not waste a second trying to rescue you. Why start now when for generations those who’ve provided services were let go of sooo easily? I can name names but I doubt you have all year to hear names you’re familiar with. Most were actually very good leaders of their nations, imagine that!?
There’s this game politicians play. It’s called poliTRICKS. Sorry sir, you’ve been played.
Time to take the bench or change the game.
Oh, and well played for the past 30-plus years, mate!
Sincerely,
akiey
(Just like you Mr. Mubarak, I’m a child of the Triple Heritage)
